Now that the Lisbon Treaty has been ratified - scandalously, without the referendum promised by Gordon Brown - the die is cast. David Cameron is right to recognise that a future Conservative Government will have to seek other ways of advancing or protecting British interests within the EU and that the requisite options can only be considered after the General Election.
