TORY MEP'S LEAD IN REJECTION OF FRENCH GREEN ANTI-NUCLEAR REPORT

Rt. Hon. Sir Robert Atkins MEP (North West) and Conservative Spokesman on Transport has persuaded a majority of MEPs to vote against attempts by anti-nuclear MEPs to stop or severely restrict the transport of nuclear material throughout the EU.

"When these proposals were first put to my Committee by a French Green MEP, they were biased, tendentious and an attack on the 13,000+ Constituents working at Sellafield, Springfields and Warrington. I tabled a series of wrecking amendments as well as seeking a sensible compromise wherever possible" commented Sir Robert, "and then worked hard to gain a majority. With the support of other Tory and Centre-Right MEPs , we were able to win the day."

"This Report could have been immensely damaging to the British Nuclear Industry, especially within the North West" concluded the Sir Robert, "and prejudiced the security of our nuclear deterrent. British Tories have yet again fought successfully to defend British interests."
