Atkins slams Labour in light of Commission Response to Concerns about Aviation Security

Sir Robert Atkins, MEP for the North West of England and Deputy Leader of the Conservatives in the European Parliament, has received a reply from the European Commission about security checks on foreign personnel who apply for jobs in British airports.

Sir Robert commented:

"The Transport Commissioner has pointed out that these matters are entirely the business of the British Government and that if the Department of Transport is dissatisfied with current procedures, Ministers should be pressing for improvement or change. So, if Manchester Airport is unhappy with the lack of information that they are receiving from Member States, why isn't the Secretary of State for Transport doing something about it?

Sir Robert concluded:

"This is yet further evidence of the dangerous complacency that this Labour Government is showing over this important issue."
