Cheshire Farmers

The Rt. Hon. Sir Robert Atkins, MEP for the North West met Cheshire farmers leaders in Clotton, near Tarpoley, last Friday and heard first hand of the severe difficulties facing the agriculture industry in the County.

"Every way they turn and in ever sector, local farmers are suffering hardship", commented Sir Robert, "and the financial sticking plaster offered by the Government last week simply goes nowhere to help. Some Cheshire landlords, such as the Duchy of Lancaster and the Duke of Westminster, have offered rebates for tenants," continued the North West MEP, "But the Labour/Liberal County Council is behaving in a hard-faced and pernickety manner, by not reducing rents and enforcing the letter of the tenancy agreements very harshly."

"I urge the public to support Cheshire Farmers by insisting on local produce at every opportunity and demanding that the Supermarkets stock British food, grown, packed and supplied in this country," concluded Sir Robert Atkins. "Labour clearly cares nothing for Cheshire farmers so the Conservative Party plus local people are the only answer."
