Fierce Questions for Iranian Security Chief

The Rt. Hon Sir Robert Atkins MEP, demanded answers from Saeed Jalili, Chief Iranian Nuclear Negotiator and Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council of Iran, when he attended the Foreign Affairs Committee of the European Parliament.

“Does Iran fund international terrorism and, if not, can you prove that to the International Community?” was the first question by Sir Robert, followed by “What is Iran doing to protect the human rights of women; homosexuals and other minorities, given the public oppression by the religious police?”

Mr Jalili was clearly shaken by the force of these questions and refused to admit that either had any basis in fact. “American and Western fiction”, was the wholly inadequate response.

Sir Robert commented:

This charade demonstrated all too clearly that Iran is only interested in the cosmetic effect of visiting Parliament and that dealing with MEPs concerns about many aspects of the Iranian regime’s activities was simply not on the agenda. But at least Mr Jalili was there and heard the anger. That must be a start.”
