"Made in Britain" Labels May be Banned

The European Union is discussing plans to end the traditional "Made in Britain" label according to reports today. The European Commission is looking to introduce a compulsory "Made in the EU" label for all products manufactured in the EU.

North West MEP Sir Robert Atkins, said:

"Products throughout the world are recognised as high quality goods by the "Made in Britain" label. These new proposals could mean the end of this proud tradition and make it difficult for firms to promote their products as British. It is essential that nations can promote their products in any way they wish.

It is hard to see how replacing the "Made in Britain" label with "Made in the EU" will bring any advantage to our businesses. The plans will lead to yet more costs and bureaucracy from Europe."
