The Rt. Hon. Sir Robert Atkins MEP visited the Morecambe Bay Gas Field

The Rt. Hon. Sir Robert Atkins MEP visited the Morecambe Bay Gas Field recently and is pictured prior to boarding the helicopter at Blackpool Airport. The North West Regional MEP spent most of the day being briefed on British Gas operations and visiting some of the nine production rigs in the Bay. He also flew to the Barrow Terminal to see what happens when the gas comes ashore. "It was a fascinating experience", commented Sir Robert Atkins, "particularly learning that 20% of the gas used in the UK comes from the North West Region and witnessing the extremely high standards of safety under which the 146 people work. I pay tribute to the commitment and professionalism of the crews", he continued, "and am very proud of the British initiative and skills which discovered and developed these sites".
