Atkins back to the Province!

Former Northern Ireland Minister of State, The Rt.Hon. Sir Robert Atkins MEP, is part of a six-member delegation of Tory MEPs making a brief visit to Ulster next week to assess for themselves the current political situation and to evaluate the effectiveness of EU Funding there.

'It will be good to be back amongst old friends again', commented the North West MEP, 'especially at such a critical and decisive time for Northern Ireland. I want people in the Province to know that I for one care deeply about their future peace and security and am coming over to express my strong support for them at a special moment.

The MEPs will lunch with Ulster Unionist Leader, David Trimble, meet SDLP and Alliance Party Members, the Chief Constable, General de Chastelaine and other community activists.

The visit will take place from 1.00 p.m. on 29th November to 2.00 p.m. on 30th November. Sir Robert Atkins was Minister of State for Northern Ireland, responsible for the Economy and the Environment from April 1992 to January 1994.
